If you enjoy traveling by plane, you may also enjoy keeping a journal of your trips. Recording certain details about a flight will give you a better idea on which airline to choose when you have to make another trip. Flightmap lets you add this type of information in a database. It also provides a graphical representation of your trips on 3D globes, powered by NASA's Earth Observatory or Google Earth.

The setup file is about 24 Mb large and it will not take long to complete the installation process. Before you start downloading, you should take a better look at your options, because there are separate installation files, for 32 and 64-bit Windows versions. The software itself will run without any problems, even with low end hardware.

Using Flightmap's functions is not difficult. The interface consists of a table of contents, where you can insert details about a trip, such as your place of departure and destination, distance, the aircraft's make and model, number of seats and more. You can also rate the flight with up to five stars or add your personal comments. When you specify a city, as a place of departure or destination, you will have to type its metropolitan code. For example, instead of typing "Paris", you will have to type "PAR." Alternatively, you may click an icon, in the same table of contents, to bring up a tabbed menu, where you will be able to select cities more comfortably and insert additional details.

If your database contains one or more flights, you can open a 2D map, to see your trip as an arrow, from one city to another. Essentially, the map is a standard image, which can be saved in JPG, BMP, PNG or TIFF format. This can be done with a series of options, located in the Map menu. Before you open or save the map, you may click one of the radio buttons, in the same menu, to select a default or abstract map, a solid color or a map with city lights. You will see the same arrows on the 3D globe and Google Earth as well. They are launched with options from separate menus and your trips will be illustrated automatically. The software provides you with statistics as well. It can show you the number of flights and distances for individual companies, aircraft and other parameters.

Pros

The application lets you record numerous details about your flights. According to your cities of departure and destinations, Flightmap will illustrate your trips on a map or 3D globe automatically. Furthermore, the software generates a wide range of statistics, which you can filter in various ways.

Cons

When using the trial version, Flightmap will place a series of magenta bars over saved images. Flightmap enables you to catalogue your flights and represent them on 2D maps and 3D globes. In this way, you will have clear picture on the places you visit.
